Taekwondo: Joining an Online Competition

Before the summer break me and my brother participated in the “1st RN International Taekwondo Championship” hosted by a club in Sri Lanka in which I joined the junior male black belt and the pair categories through my teacher. We had classes every Thursday online with my Taekwondo teacher while we also practiced in the weekend sometimes.  With my brother being in red stripe, I was able to apply my knowledge to correct his movements in his poomsae(a pattern of Taekwondo movements). Finally, after spending 3 more hours getting our final videos done, I sent them over to my teacher to be submitted with his dojang(group).

In the end, I think we did an alright performance, however it could have gone better if my brother was more committed to practicing with me for the pair poomsae.

Learning objectives:

LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

I was able to teach my brother more details on the intricacies within the poomsae as I am a black belt dan 3 myself. In doing so, I also was able to improve my poomsae through the practice.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

At first, I thought it would be challenging to practice with my brother as he isn’t very committed to practicing Taekwondo recently. However, we pulled through and were able to get a video to submit in the competition.

LO3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

Planning was required in this activity as we had to practice our poomsae consistently to prepare for the video submission.

LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

Commitment to Taekwondo as an experience is demonstrated as I applied my skills in Taekwondo to a competition.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.

I had to work together with my brother as the timing had to be correct between us two. Thus, this required a lot of practice as sometimes one of us would be off.
