Day 3

Today was more of a chill day with only a 25km bike around Sigiriya. Day by day, I’m getting more used to the gears and I felt more comfortable as I got onto my bike today.

As we rode around Sigiriya, we took a break here and held a race to find out who can bike the slowest!

After a while, we visited a mud hut where we were taught by a nice grandma how to cook a traditional Sri Lankan lunch. I even got to scrap some coconuts! After lunch, we were are sooo stuffed and we all wanted a nice nap, however, we had to get back to camp! Hence, we cycled for another 9 km back with all that flavourful food in our stomach.

At camp, we were allowed to have some downtime before the nature trek. Thus, I took a quick nap to complement the flavorsome lunch we just had. After a while, I got changed and ready for the nature trek around BOB which we hoped some elephants would show up! We went across rivers, through the thick and thin of the jungle, however, we ran out of luck and couldn’t find a single elephant. Instead, we were able to learn a lot about the nature and environment around the camp, and was a unique experience.

Back at camp, it was my group’s time to cook! Therefore, my group and I took a quick shower before we went into the kitchen to cook up the chicken and fried rice from the ingredients we bought in town when we were cycling.

With Sam handling the fried rice, me on the chicken, Ava on the carrots and Akash and Oliver helping here and there, we got dinner served just in time and I think we all did pretty well!

Today was a satisfying day, from the cycling to the food we ate, it was fun!

LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Cooking food today was challenging, our group’s teamwork and skills were really put to the test. With some mistakes being made here and there, I’m sure we all learned something important whether it was about cooking, teamwork or leadership.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

Cooking was a challenge for all of us as we have never tried cooking for more than 10 people! We didn’t expect for it to take so long for us to cook fried rice, chicken and some veggies, however, we pulled it off in the end and picked up some valuable lessons on the way.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

Whether cycling or cooking, today was a crucial day as a group to prove that we are all satisfactory team workers. Personally, I think that we all made a great group as we all solved problems together in and out of the kitchen.
