The SGA EXCO Elections concluded recently. Chloe and I are the SGA Spirit Coordinators for this year, and our first order of business was to arrange a spirit week for the final week of school. There has traditionally been a Christmas Spirit Week at around this time, but we wanted to respect all traditions, so we decided to make this as secular as possible. Seeing as Chloe was also the spirit coordinator last year, she knew how to start this process, and that was by emailing the Principals and MYP coordinator for approval/ alternate suggestions. We were granted it, and our next step was preparation.

Chloe designed the advertising poster for the spirit week, as seen below.
After some deliberation amongst ourselves, alongside the Primary student government, we settled on our five days. Our first day was holiday hat day, where participants could wear something like a Santa Hat, Reindeer Antlers, or even a Hanukkah hat. The second day was more of a creative one, challenging students to create their own holiday themed decoration, which could be displayed around their house. Day three focuses on cooking up some holiday inspired sweets. Decorating cakes, cookies or cupcakes with coloured and holiday icing. The fourth day is a pretty basic dress up day, wearing the clothing specific to their favourite holiday. Finally, we end with pyjama day on Friday, as most spirit weeks tend to.
We also needed to update each individual padlet, which I focused on. The padlet is where students can upload evidence of their participation in the spirit week, as this is of course a virtual spirit week. Here is the green house padlet as an example.
At the end of each day, we write reminders of what day it is tomorrow, and give an update on the point tally. Here is an example of the email I sent after day one.
Hey Geckos,
Just a reminder that tomorrow is Holiday Decoration Making Day. We look forward to seeing what creative decoration you are able to come up with.
Here are the padlet links to post for tomorrow:
Thank you!
