Ben’s CAS Goals

CAS GOALS

These are some goals that I aim to achieve over the course of DP1. Given the current environment with the COVID 19 pandemic, some of these goals may not be able to be carried out. Therefore there are backup options.

Creativity: My creativity goal is related to an out of school project that I am currently embarking upon. I have been writing sports articles for a website called Sideline Sources. Since school has restarted, I have lost touch with my writing quite a bit. It is definitely something that I want to continue with, no matter how busy I get with school. Therefore, my goal is to write at least three articles per month for the remainder of DP1. This allows me to continue to write, but at a rate where I can balance it with school work, which is the priority.

Activity:

My initial focus for activity would be training for specific SAISA sports depending on the season. It is something  have participated in for a number of years and hope to continue doing so. Due to the COVID restrictions here at OSC, we are currently not allowed to hold training sessions for sports. We would usually be doing 3-5 volleyball sessions per week at this time of year, but without it we are losing a lot of time for fitness. Therefore, it is extremely important for my health and well being that I do a good amount of personal fitness sessions. My goal is to have a workout five times a week for around 1 hour. This should help me keep up a good level of fitness, even without SAISA or any type of school sport going on. These workouts will be a combination of weight training, running, as well as any sports  outside of school (Futsal, Basketball training etc).

Service: My usual service at OSC for the past few years has been checkmates. In checkmates, we work with children from a local school, and improve their chess skills. This is good for learning English and social skills, but also gives them scholarship opportunities. In the current environment, we are unfortunately unable to do the traditional service program at OSC. I therefore must find other ways to help out. My goal is to find at least one long term service project that can be done within the current environment.
