With basketball season beginning after the volleyball season ended, I have been training with many new teammates to ready for SAISA travel at the start of February. This is my second year taking part in SAISA basketball after coming 3rd overall last year in Bombay, ASB. This year we will travel to Jordan, Aman and compete at ACS. Practicing on the same days as volleyball (Tuesday, Friday and Saturday) we split each day into individual focuses. On Tuesdays we work on team building through defense/offense formations, shooting drills and overall playstyle building. On Fridays we play games against other local schools such as Elizabeth Moir and Gateway college. On Saturdays we focus on improving our cardio, endurance, strength and shot accuracy doing many hill runs, sprints and shooting for roughly an hour. We also use this time to build as a team and get closer through support and playing together. Due to an ankle injury having twisted my foot playing basketball outside of practice I was unable to train for 2 weeks before the Christmas break and because of this I have had some setbacks such as a decrease in endurance, knowledge on team plays and a slightly decreased vertical jump. With the SAISA season coming up now I feel prepared to travel and compete with detailed ideas of how I should play within my team to fit my role and to my best effort.
