This year OSC did well in volleyball, considering we lost crucial players from the team last year. Although we could have done better as we all know we could have, we finished the tournament held at ACS in second place. Through the days of the tournament, our collaboration as a team got exponentially better, having lost 2 games in a row the second game on day 1 and the first game on day 2. From there we proceeded to win all of our upcoming matches except the final in which we lost 3 sets to 1.
As a team we collectively agreed that our best game of the tournament was the semi-finals against ACS, being our rematch game having lost to them in our group stage matches. Going up against them again we were fully prepared, focused and came through winning 2 sets to 0 playing almost our absolute best. As a captain of the volleyball team, I greatly appreciate the efforts and dedication of every single player and could not have wished for a better team. Each player was supportive, a team player and tried their best even until moments when it felt like there was no hope. Reflecting upon myself I believe I played well, being the main outside hitter and hitting most of the sets given to me effectively over the net, being named “Big Ben Jackson”, by the commentator of each game we played. Playing with this year’s team was an amazing experience, collaborating with a range of players across different grade levels and watching each player progressively greatly in their game. Concluding this final volleyball season I wish the best of luck to the future volleyball teams of OSC and I am so grateful for the experiences the tournaments over the past 3 years have brought.
Ending on a third and final tournament win would have been amazing but losing in itself is an important experience every player must come across. Walking towards my future I hope to continue to play and progress in my skills at university and wherever my future takes me. Finally, if any of the boys I played with read this, well done and best of luck in future, I’m proud of you and will always believe in your capabilities, thanks for the memories and always push to be your best. Signing off, I will always miss volleyball at OSC. :'(
