On 11th to the 13th of December we took a science trip and traveled on the bus to Sinharaja rainforest. Working in 7 different groups of 5 people per group we split up across the edge of the forest to collect the data we need in plots. In my group I worked with Aadhya, Dimath, Mali and Nayara. On the first day of our trip we were introduced to how we would be collecting data and what specific data we were looking for. On the second day of our trip we worked together to gather this data. We looked at species of plants/trees (specific type, girth at breast height, estimated/measured total height, estimated/counted number of leaves), luminosity around within the plot, pH of the soil, the total number of plants and the humidity in the plot. With all this information we took notes into a book. As there was a lot of data to gather and things to do prior and post of doing so we separated role within our group. I worked on collecting the pH of the soil, gathering it and mixing it in water, finding the luminosity and setting up and taking apart the plot. To summarize our trip to Sinharaja on the third day of hiked a nearby trail through the forest up to a peak through the trees to a scenic view where we could see miles of forest and even Adam’s peak.
