DP Orientation Trip

DP Orientation Trip

“The boys at the waterfall” (marvel canyon)

It’s been around a month since orientation. It was fun and I think it was a pretty useful experience to get us started off for the year. We’d be spending a lot of time together so I think developing those relationships and friendships off the bat was a good call. I personally learned a lot about orientation, a lot about my friends too. I think it was a very useful resource for us as a class. Sad to hear we won’t have any of those next year but so be it. We should be pretty close by then. I think it was a good bonding experience, I was able to rebuild some friendships and make some new ones as well. The Borderlands employees were also very helpful, comforting and made us feel at home. They were a pretty fun bunch as well. Had a good time with a few of the guys. Honestly glad we didn’t have to do canoeing this year. That was an absolute mess. Me and Darius almost got sent back to Colombo at that time. Maybe it was us but regardless it wasn’t great. Water rafting was a massive improvement from last year and helped us develop our teamwork skills. It was a good time. A challenge from my trip was just making sure I didn’t mess up my foot anymore. I was slightly injured for the duration of the trip but I ended up being careful enough to not mess it up anymore. I ended up coming out of the trip unscathed. All in all this trip just opened my eyes and got me working better and more cohesively with the group socially and operationally.

Goals for Housing & Habitat:

  • Help Vidyaloka school out by building and providing them with their essential needs, such as bookshelves, chairs, benches…
  • We should effectively split our service group into 3 groups. 2 will focus on the aiding the Vidyaloka school and the last group will focus on helping OSC build a more eco friendly campus.
  • Raise funds to help our partner school. A personal goal for me and my friends is to also gain and raise more money than we did last year. We raised approximately 70,000 lkr.

Creativity:

Music:

  • Obtain further understanding in Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs)
  • Further understanding of music theory
  • Continue to work with notable artists in the industry
  • Develop beat making skills and connections through the usage of my cousin
  • Hopefully raise enough money from the business and further invest in my music technology

Middle School Basketball Coaching

  • Take initiative and help the younger kids improve
  • Help the team members develop physical and mental strength. I want them to carry the lessons learned through training onto life as well. Learning loss, winning and what it takes to improve is something I lacked at such a young age but playing in a team with the dynamics involved helped me develop as a person and I strive to help them develop in every way possible.
  • Help the kids improve basketball knowledge and general skills.
  • Train myself to be a better mentor
