This is my final year of high school. As much as I want to enjoy my senior year, I’d like to set some goals to keep me on track so that I would have a balance between my academics and extra curricular activities. This is my CAS breakdown:
Creativity
Concert Band- The Concert Band is a group of instrumentalists who play for school events. Mrs.Duncan, the teacher in charge is the conductor of the concert band. I play the cello and playing for different school events has helped me to gain confidence, learn new music other than my cello exam pieces and I work collaboratively with the other instrumentalists. This activity is a year long commitment and it will get harder as my final exams approach but it is my responsibility to deal with the problems that arise during this activity. My goal for concert band this year is to challenge myself with different types of music and develop my skills (LO2).
Band for Oliver- This year our school musical is “Oliver”. The concert band doesn’t play for this but Mrs. Duncan, our school music teacher has invited some instrumentalists from the concert band and other music ensembles to play at this event. Mrs. Duncan has invited me to play the timpani but I have never played any percussion instrument before. This is a semester long commitment and my goal is to learn to play the timpani and work collaboratively with the other instrumentalists in this ensemble (LO2,LO4).
Trinity College London Grade 7 Piano- Sadly, I couldn’t do the piano exam last November as I didn’t have enough time to practice last year. I will be doing this exam in October. My goal is to spend at least 1.5 hours everyday practicing as this requires a lot of practice and technical work and deal with the problems that arise in the course of practicing such as time management. I have not been able to practice everyday but I make the effort to practice at least every other day (LO5).
Trinity College London Grade 3 Cello- I started to learn to play the cello last year and I did the Trinity College London Grade 1 exam. I passed with distinction (99/100) and I’m looking forward to attend the prize giving on the 24th of August 2019. This year I will be doing the Grade 3 exam. Because I have not had enough time to practice my exam work, I make a lot of mistakes at my lesson. This has made me lose interest but I don’t want to. I know that I have the skill to learn my exam work and my goal is to not give up and do well the exam. To do so, I will have to practice every other.I will be practicing the cello on the days that I won’t be playing the piano (LO3,LO5).
Trinity College London Speech and Drama (ATCL)- I just completed the Speech and Drama Grade 8 exam in August and I will be starting the ATCL diploma coursework in September. Associate Performance Diplomas are a one-unit qualification assessed by performance only but I need to be able to discuss the difference performance techniques used and in depth background information about the chosen dramas. My goal is to develop the acting skills that I have and earn the diploma at the end of this course (LO1).
SAISA Music Band and Choir 2020- SAISA Music 2019 was fantastic! I loved it. I learnt a lot about singing, made new friends, immersed into the Danish culture and got to see some beautiful sites in Katmandu. This trip gave me the opportunity to sing in a choir. We had to take part in practice sessions where only 5-6 singers were allowed to participate in and this helped me to work collaboratively with the those in that practice session. My goal for this year’s SAISA Music is to work collaboratively with others and develop the skills I acquired last year (LO2,LO4).
Activity
Zumba- I did Zumba last year and will be continuing this activity this year. It has helped me a lot to move different parts of the body to the rhythm of the music. This is a very fun non competitive activity and has helped me to form friendships with children form different grades in my school. My goal for this activity is to improve my muscle strength (LO1).
I will also be swimming with my dad on weekends but it doesn’t count for CAS as there is no supervisor. It still falls into the activity category.
Service
Temple School- I will be continuing the service activity I did last year this year. I am the Temple School service leader for the year 2019-2020 along with my colluder Hamda. I enjoy volunteering every Thursday afternoon to volunteer in this service activity. Our service group gives the helps the children (ages 3-5) from the Temple School to experience what they can’t in their family and we also help to improve their English. This year my goals for service are to create a service plan with different activities which focuses on one aspect of learning such as reading, sports, creativity etc.(LO4,LO7)
