The Home Run is an annual 5 km marathon which was on the 17th of November this year. The main goal of the run was to raise awareness about the stray animals in Sri Lanka. The event was set up by Housing and Habitat in collaboration with Care for Paws which is a nonprofit organization whose goal is to provide a temporary home for cats and dogs until they are adopted. Because I am participating in SAISA football, I was required to participate in the marathon. By taking part in the run, the participants helped the Care for Paws as everyone had to pay Rs 500 to join the run. To my surprise, there were so many people who were participating in the run, and the funds raised were a staggering Rs. 70,000.
The marathon was long and tiring, but I was pretty excited to be a part of the event as it was my first time running a marathon. I’m happy I was able to contribute to a good cause and I am definitely going to take part again next year!
