On the 15th of January, we organized and conducted our annual Home Run for this year (LO#3). It was something I was looking forward to it because not only was it my first time organizing it, but it is also a great opportunity for everyone to come together for a good cause(LO#2). The entrance fee was 500 LKR, and we are going to use this for our future projects and workshop supplies. Before we were able to conduct the event, we had to plan out not only the route but also we had to arrange some supplies so that the people who were running did not have to worry about things such as water. On the day of the Home Run, we all woke up at around 4:30, and we were in school by 5:30 am. We had some things which we had to sort out before the start of the Home Run, which was things such as getting the water from Mr. Rajiv.
Unfortunately, even after making the arrangments for water, we were not able to get the water before the Home Run, which meant we had to buy some water bottles from the shops. After doing that, we had some printed out direction signs, which we had to put up on the streets, and by the time we finished doing that, it was already 6:30 am. We only had an hour to set up our water stations at different points of the route, but fortunately for us, members of the Care for Paws service group were there to help us, and we were able to finish setting up all of our stations before 7:30 am(LO#4). Overall, even though we didn’t get as many volunteers as last year, but everything ran smoothly, and I would consider it a success.
