Our Economics Class decided to run a Zoomathon(A Livestream on Zoom) in partnership with Unicef to do an OSC COVID-19 relief fund for school children affected due to the Coronavirus pandemic. This was suggested by our Economics teacher, Mr. Rossberg, and would not have been possible without his determination and perseverance throughout the period from the planning to bringing this idea of a Zoomathon into a reality. Each member of our class had chosen a role; My role along with some other classmates was to create the videos that would be played over the course of the Zoomathon. Though it took a long time to gather all the videos and merge them together, It was a rather satisfying task since I realized this effort would help for a good cause. During the planning phase, we did face some difficulties, for example, The website where people could donate, the amount even when the transaction was not completed would still show up in the total money raised progress bar. To fix the issue, some students volunteered to monitor all the transactions that were made to remove any invalid donations.

The Zoomathon happened on the 9th of June and turned out to be a huge success, raising over 500000lkr which was our determined goal. This money along with an auction that was happening during the Zoomathon was donated to Unicef that would help the school children affected by the Coronavirus pandemic. This Zoomathon allowed me to engage with a global issue that has impacted millions of lives deeply and lead to numerous deaths all over the world which is the 6th learning outcome. Also, I have been able to work with my classmates very well which resulted in the Zoomathon turning into a great success. Therefore I have also achieved the 5th learning outcome.

This experience of planning and bring the Zoomathon into reality is similar to that of a CAS project. Thus, this experience will prepare me for the CAS project upcoming this year.
