What used to be known as UN Day, now replaced with “Unity in Diversity Day”, is a school event held to let other students explore various cultures. I must say out of all the events held in school, UN Day has to be the best one, especially because of the many varieties of food. It’s almost like never-ending stalls with unlimited food. It was a Friday, right before the mid-term break, so everyone was relaxed and lightened. The basketball court, where everyone gathered in the morning to carry out a parade, was lightened up by the vibrant colours of the flags, and national clothes from various nationalities.

As grade 11’s, we were tasked to conduct workshops on this year’s SDG, 16, to assigned homerooms. Luka and I were assigned to educate the class of MYP 2.2 about the 16th SDG, Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, with a lesson plan created by COMUN members. Throughout the lesson, we introduced what an SDG is, what the focus of SDG 16 is and what the UN has achieved to the students with slideshows and fun activities, including Kahoots. Lastly, to test the students’ newly explored knowledge on the 16th SDG, we allowed them to create their institution in a poster. Overall, it was a fun experience for both us and the class we taught. Luka and I were very proud of ourselves for conducting a workshop without any flaws and being able to share our knowledge with others.

With the workshops coming to an end, we were all buried under the best part of Unity in Diversity Day, the food. Out of all the hundreds and hundreds of native food varieties, my personal favourite was the traditional Sri Lankan sweets, no matter how much I eat, it will forever be my favourite!
