The video shown above is a product of my final French CAS blog. This video is intended to teach beginners the fundamentals of scoring basketball for both French Speaking and English speaking people. The video breaks down how to perform simple offensive scoring techniques such as the layup and the jump-shot. It is also accompanied by an auditory explanation and a visual representation of certain rules in basketball like the travel and the double dribble. The video is not meant to teach how to play basketball entirely as the sport is extremely complex but instead it is meant to help beginners understand the specific techniques that go into performing such fundamental actions. Personally, as a long-term basketball player, the advice regarding shooting form and how to create muscle memory has become a part of my warm up routine before every time I play basketball. Without this knowledge, the way I play the game would be extremely different as I would lack the ability to shoot the ball and also to successfully create shots for myself closer to the hoop. I feel as though the offensive aspect of my game is my most impressive and I feel as though I could give the most amount of true and in depth advice on how to perform it correctly.

 

LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Through the creation of this video which intends to teach both English speaking and French speaking people the fundamentals of scoring in basketball accompanied by a few beginner rules, I have been able to identify my own strengths as well as develop areas for growth. The first strength that I identified was that I have a passion for video editing and also a lot of experience editing sports videos. Even though this video was barely edited, I realized that I would have a lot of fun making it as I have been making sports videos for almost 5 years now. In addition to this, I also identified my strengths within the sport of basketball as I used my offensive strengths in order to teach the viewers the basics on how to score in basketball. Additionally, my French vocabulary was both a strength and an area for growth as I was able to make this task more manageable due to my pre existing vocabulary but I was also able to learn some new phrases or vocabulary through a website like ‘Word Reference’ which allowed me to fully convey my message throughout the video. Lastly, I have never been good at using subtitles in my videos as I would have a hard time putting them in the same place every time and lining them up with the voice over/audio. This time, through trial and error, I developed a new way of creating subtitles which I had never used or even thought of prior to this experience. Instead of individually adding text boxes to the video I decided to add one large text box that covered the entire video. This allowed me to keep the subtitles in the same place on the screen and it also made it easier for me to align the correct subtitles with the corresponding French dialogue.

Cette vidéo est un produit de mon dernier blog CAS français. Cette vidéo a pour but d’enseigner aux débutants les fondamentaux du basket marquer pour les francophones et les anglophones. La vidéo explique comment exécuter des techniques de notation offensives simples telles que le layup et le jump-shot. Il donne également une explication auditive et une représentation visuelle de certaines règles du basket comme le trav3l et le double dribble. La vidéo n’enseigne pas entièrement comment jouer au basketball car le sport est extrêmement complexe, mais elle aide plutôt les débutants à comprendre les techniques spécifiques qui permettent d’effectuer ces actions fondamentales. Personnellement, en tant que basketteur qui joue depuis de nombreuses années, les conseils concernant la forme du marqueur et la façon de créer de la mémoire musculaire sont devenus une partie de ma routine d’échauffement avant chaque fois que je joue au basket. Sans cette connaissance, ma façon de jouer serait extrêmement différente car je n’aurais pas la capacité de marquer le ballon. J’ai l’impression que l’aspect offensif de mon jeu est mon plus impressionnant et j’ai l’impression que je pourrais donner le plus de conseils vrais et approfondis sur la façon de l’exécuter correctement.

 

LO1 : Identifiez vos propres forces et développez des domaines de croissance

Dès la création de cette vidéo qui se propose d’enseigner aux anglophones et francophones les fondamentaux du score au basket accompagnés de quelques règles de débutant, j’ai pu identifier mes propres forces ainsi que développer des axes de croissance. La première force que j’ai identifiée était que j’ai une passion pour le montage vidéo et aussi beaucoup d’expérience dans le montage de vidéos de sport. Même si cette vidéo n’a pas été beaucoup montée, je me suis rendu compte que j’aurais beaucoup de plaisir à la faire puisque je fais des vidéos de sport depuis presque 5 ans maintenant. En plus de cela, j’ai également identifié mes points forts dans le sport du basket car j’ai utilisé mes points forts offensifs afin d’enseigner aux téléspectateurs les bases sur la façon de marquer au basket. De plus, mon vocabulaire français était à la fois une force et un domaine de croissance car j’ai pu rendre cette vidéo plus facile à gérer grâce à mon vocabulaire préexistant, mais j’ai également pu apprendre de nouvelles phrases ou du vocabulaire via un site Web comme « WordReference » qui m’a permis de transmettre pleinement mon message tout au long de la vidéo. Enfin, je n’ai jamais été doué pour utiliser des sous-titres dans mes vidéos car j’aurais du mal à les mettre au même endroit à chaque fois et à les aligner avec l’audio. Cette fois, par essais et erreurs, j’ai développé une nouvelle façon de créer des sous-titres que je n’avais jamais utilisé ni même pensé avant cette expérience. Au lieu d’ajouter individuellement des zones de texte à la vidéo, j’ai décidé d’ajouter une grande zone de texte couvrant toute la vidéo. Cela m’a permis de garder les sous-titres au même endroit sur l’écran et cela m’a également facilité l’alignement des bons sous-titres avec le dialogue français correspondant.
