Surfing in Weligama – March 14th, 2021

For the weekend, my friend and my family went down south to Weligama to get away from the bustling city of Colombo. Our friends had a beach house that was situated roughly 5 minutes away from the main Weligama bay, where most people do their surfing. Leading up to this weekend, I had no interest in learning how to surf as I thought that my various injuries regarding my hips, back, shoulders and knees would make it an unpleasant experience.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

I demonstrated that challenges had been undertaken while developing new skills in the process primarily by overcoming my fear of further injuring my body. This has been a fear of mine ever since my shoulder injury almost 2 years ago (which still hasn’t fully recovered). It impacted by mental and physical health in drastic ways and I do not want to ever experience that again. Through these challenges, I was also able to develop new skills, like surfing. I thought that this would be very difficult for me but I picked it up almost instantly. I think that this may be due to the fact that I learned how to kite surf in early October of 2020 so I was more familiar with water sports.
