Long Overdue…

[Irina, Me, Dimath & Vicky]
In my last update on COMUN, I mentioned the new website—something Dimath and I are proud of and hope will remain active for the new session. We witnessed a significant shift in momentum as the tech team finally began their work following the practice debates held from January 27th to the main conference days until March 3rd, 2024. The team comprises Dimath and me, serving as co-heads of tech, Vicky, the head of media, and Irina, the head of publicity & marketing.

Delegate Workshop

Before the delegate workshop, our first experience of a “live” MUN, we had the opportunity to meet everyone involved in the exco. To be completely honest, we were clueless and hadn’t started any work concerning the “events” aspect of COMUN, so this whole thing was new to us. At the forefront of this newfound productivity were Dimath and myself. On the day of the delegate workshop, only Dimath and I showed up with our phones and one camera on hand. Since it was a short day, we spent the time talking to other exco members, learning about each committee, and meeting the delegates.

Exco Meetings (The Few I Attended)

We established an unspoken collaboration system (thanks to Week Without Walls). In this system, I coordinated with the exco members, occasionally attending their meetings, planning/scheduling, and communicating ideas within the tech team. Dimath focused on logistical aspects such as liaising with photographers, and teachers, and staying in touch with the marketing and tech heads of our school.

Vicky and Irina alternated attending the exco meetings with me. During these meetings, we planned upcoming posts, designed merchandise, and coordinated the main conference videos (which turned out to be more complex than anticipated, but I’ll get to that in a different post). Vicky contributed greatly by capturing amazing pictures during PDs and conferences, and by managing COMUN’s Instagram account, which is both aesthetically pleasing and rich with information. Vicky utilized reels and TikToks alongside Irina, who also assisted in designing some of the merchandise and worked on producing the videos.

Practice Debates

During the practice debates, we focused on capturing behind-the-scenes content, getting to know everyone, figuring out what and where to get the equipment from, creating schedules for the conference, and taking a lot of pictures. As a tech team, we spent a lot of time getting to know the chairs and participants. This gave us a better idea of the committees and allowed us to brainstorm ideas and create a unique video for everyone involved. The practice debates were also when the tech team was asked to work with IPC (International Press Corps). We collaborated on a magazine for COMUN, delving into the behind-the-scenes dynamics, roles, and members of COMUN. While Hani and Sara (co-heads of IPC) focused on writing, we helped with the aesthetics.
