Unity in Diversity day

unity and diversity is the school’s motto and is also celebrated by everyone who is part of our school’s community.  International Day as many may know when every student, teacher, and family gets together and puts in their effort to represent their country and culture through food stalls, traditional clothes, music, and dance I knew the drill however what I did not know is that each year on unity and diversity day(previously known as UN day) with the help of our teachers and coordinators we as members of the COMUN club plan activities that fall under the themes of unity.

I have never come across any school that conducts interesting activities relevant to unity and diversity while teaching the students about the importance of sustainable development goals and institutions on a fairly busy day with parents and staff storming into the school. The cool part is that all of the activities were student-led. Planned by COMUN members and executed by the members and all of the DP1 students together we created workshops that were tailored according to the different grades in the school.

My group included Hadiya and Rupasha and we ran our workshop with MYP 4; we played a game called “Mafia” and later conducted a “courtroom roleplay” We divided the class into two groups, gave them 2 different scenarios, and put the students into the shoes of a Judge, witness, victim, and a lawyer. we then asked them to figure out what according to them the final decision should be. of course, this ended up turning into a debate but I still enjoyed being part of this activity because we got to explore the different perspectives of each student and all of us realized how hard it is to work towards peacefully getting justice. overall this was a really interesting experience and I am looking forward to seeing what we will do for next year’s Unity in Diversity Day.
