Since the beginning of February, our service has been planning fund-raising events in order to supply materials for us to build for future projects. The two back-to-back events which we had planned was a in school bake sale and our yearly event “Home Run”. For the bake sale we planned to set it on March 1st where we would sell a variety of sweets and other items such as popcorn, iced biscuits, brownies and et cetera. Whilst the initial idea was simple, there was a lot of planning involved where we had to create posters for the event and advertise it through the schools daily bulletin. In addition to this, we had to plan suitable prices, environmentally friendly packaging when giving the food and money for exchange.
The event itself turned out to be a huge success where we managed to raise around 65000 LKR. All proceeds earned by this event will go to purchasing materials in order to make essential classroom needs for Vidyaloka Vidyalaya. As a service we build chairs, desk and basic housing for schools/organisations in need. This event required our group to engage in skills such as collaboration, initiative and planning in addition to global engagement.
