On the 24th of November, me and my classmates went on our DP orientation trip to Kitulgala Borderlands for three days. The trip was a huge change in scenery and was quite a juxtaposition from the new norm of staying indoors due to Covid-19. The trip allowed us to explore the natural rivers, flora and fauna and allowed us to go out of our comfort zone in many aspects.
Due to Covid-19, we had to jam both our science and orientation trips together, meaning we only did majority of our water based activities on the first day. With this said the day certainly was packed with adrenaline activities such as white water rafting, canyoning and going over rapids without any boats or canoes.
The experience of jumping off the rocks while canyoning was certainly my most enjoyable moment. The feeling of jumping with meters of space from water is not something which you can just enjoy anywhere and was especially fun when doing it with the company of others. The challenges faced and overcome help me develop the cas learning come of “Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process”. Throughout the experience it was also a great way of building trust and teamwork within my peers and people who I don’t normally interact with which helped me develop my CAS learning outcome to “Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively”.
