House is here. No time to fear – Housing & Habitat 24-25🏠πŸͺ΄πŸ§±πŸ”¨πŸͺš

Housing and Habitat, the greatest service to ever service is BACK! And oh baby are we starting strong. First of all, welcome BEN our new service leader, head of building operations. I like to joke, I’m the brain behind Housing (cuz I do literally all of the planning), Jed’s the mouth (cuz he does all the yapping and speaks for the trees), and Ben’s the body (cuz he’s Bob the builder). I love Housing so much. I’m so glad it’s back. It genuinely is my favorite moment of the week, spending time with some of my best friends, joking around with little children, and using power tools. It’s like a stress ball, allowing me to forget all of the anger, stress, anxiety, tears, shrieks, and objects thrown across my room the IB brings me. After losing Antoine and Isa, we got a whole new batch of little rascals to deal with. Seb, Yannis, Jevyin, Agam, Varun, Ovish, and Amaya. The future of our beautiful service group we polished into becoming one of God’s greatest accomplishments.

Immdetiadly Jed, Ben, and I wanted to split the group up. As last year, all 8 of us working on one project always led to disagreements, and someone standing around doing nothing. We decided to go to a Butterfly farm, where a community practices several different ways of being eco-friendly. We went there with our service group, as well as Mr. Polous’s Gecko Reporters. This led to our next session brainstorming on what we wanted to create in the OSC environment. I created this slideshow, of a collection of photos of the different ecological practices we viewed at the farm. We decided to split the groups into 3 priorities for our OSC campus, separating our leaders and DP members equally between, one group focusing on building a fence for the Primary garden beds (Ben, Sofia, Agam, Varun), another team (Jed, Alex, Amaya, Jevyin) focusing on building a tarp covering the Primary garden beds, to help slow down rainfall; as the heavy rainfall was causing the garden beds to lose the nutritious topsoil, and the last group, my group with Arnav, Seb, Yannis, and Ovish, working on mini projects, which taking inspiration from the Butterfly farm, will construct smaller ecological things out of recycled materials.

The project we’re currently working on now is turning an old Frisbee Golf goal into a garden bed. I’m excited to keep updating my blog on the advancements we make!

Our main focus is finishing building the fence. As there was an incident, in which a little kid had an injury. So the school urged us to focus primarily on building the fence as fast as possible.
