Jogging in Viharamahadevi Park
During CAS today, we were given time to go off and be active! I chose to go for a run. I live in Colombo 7, close to the famous and beautiful Viharamahdevi Park. The park is quite big, with a perimeter of 2 km. Its just less than 1 km away from my apartment, and I go jogging there everyday afterschool. The greenery and birdcalls that surround me are refreshing! It’s a great feeling to step out and feel the fresh air on my face as I run.
There are a variety of organisms in the park. Mostly, there are lots of birds! I’ve seen crows and parrots, but also many more colourful, unique birds that I can’t name. There are also a few stray dogs, but they are harmless, and mind their own business most of the time. This morning, as I went by the little lake in the park, I saw many ducks.
The track I take everyday is a total of almost 4 km, and today I burnt 242 calories in about 40 minutes. I did a mix of short bursts of running and then walking at a brisk pace, and I think this is an effective way to keep my heart rate up.
Learning Outcomes:
2. Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process – Since I am not very fond of running, pushing myself to go out and run was quite a challenge. I hope I will be able to do this more, and continue developing the skill!
