A Review of the New ATV Track!

Last weekend, a few friends and I went down to the new ATV track in Port City! I’d been wanting to go for a while, so was quite excited when I finally got the chance. I’d never been on an ATV before, so I was a little bit nervous, too. Unfortunately, the experience was not quite what I’d expected…

Upon arrival, we found out that the price was 7,000 rupees each for just 15 minutes on the ATV.  I was a little surprised initially. That seemed like a lot for just a quarter of an hour. However, we decided that it would probably be worth it, and since we’d come all the way, we might as well go ahead with the plan. So, we paid and went inside. Once we reached the track, we saw that we were the only ones there. The place seemed quite small, and there were three ATV’s parked in the middle of the area. Luckily, however, we didn’t have to wait long before someone arrived to give us a quick orientation.

Basically, the session we had chosen had three tracks, A, B and C, which got progressively more challenging.  The employee that was explaining the process to us said that it would take us between 10 – 15 minutes to go through all of them. Then he told us the difference between them. Track A was a simple one that was called the “warm up” track. Track B spelled the words “port city” out. Track C was the hardest, and had sharp turns, hills, and dips that we had to navigate.

Me and Ohana getting ready to go!

Slightly nervous but still quote excited, I went first. The first track was simple, as he had said and I managed it quite easily until the very end, when we had to go through a small water tank. I was a little doubtful and worried that I’d get splashed, but the employee guided me through it and it was actually quite fun. The next track was also fun, but again fairly simple, and the last track was also very doable. The last track was the best for me, because I really enjoyed going in and out of the “pits” of sand!

However, I was a little annoyed to find that I finished the entire course in under 7 minutes. Me, a complete beginner that wasn’t even going very fast. So basically, I’d paid a 1000 rupees per minute to go on a fairly simple, boring track. It was definitely a complete waste of money.

But, the bright side is that I spent some quality time with my friends! After the ATV ride, we walked along the beach for a while, racing each other and just having some fun.  So overall, I got some fresh air, worked up a sweat, and had a pleasant evening! I also got to try something new, even though it didn’t quite meet my expectations!

Learning Outcomes:

2. Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process – I tried something new, and therefore developed a new skill – driving an ATV!

5. Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively – I spent some time with my friends, and we all cheered and encouraged each other throughout the activity.
